BBA designed and delivered the “Construction Skills Centre” for Bath College at their Somer Valley campus. We were appointed as Design Architects by Bath College and subsequently Midas Construction as “Delivery” Architects for technical design and delivery. The building achieved a BREEAM “Excellent” rating.
A Public Exhibition, Staff and Student Consultations informed the design for the building. Presentation boards included coloured plans, material examples and sketch-up visuals, to explain the proposals. The design was reviewed and amended based on this feedback. Further consultation with the Heads of Departments, was sought to refine the technical design and specification. Our in-house planning team also reviewed the scheme concurrently, due to its location in the Radstock Conservation Area and its adjacency to a Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI).
The 2665m² building was designed with bespoke workshops, to facilitate the teaching of full-time programmes for 14-16-year olds, apprenticeships for 16-18-year olds, higher education and programmes for the unemployed. These included specialist spaces and bays for each construction course including plumbing, electrical engineering, carpentry and stonemasonry. Further facilities included teaching spaces, offices, storage and ancillary areas.Back
