The 2022 Building Safety Act created a new role: the Principal Designer (PD) for building regulations. Commonly called Building Regs Principal Designer (BRPD) or Building Safety Act Principal Designer (BSAPD) Separate from the CDM regulations’ Principal Designer, this role focuses on ensuring a building project complies with all relevant building regulations. The PD is responsible for managing, planning, and monitoring the design work to ensure it meets the requirements of the Building Regulations, coordinating with the design team and other duty holders from the early design stages through to project completion.
